Gets Hitched - the Launch Night

I went along to the Craft Central Gets Hitched wedding fair on Thursday 22nd March (read more about the fair here). At the launch night I enjoyed a couple of glasses of bucks fizz and had a thorough look around all the stands and rooms on all the different floors.

I met loads of great suppliers and got a few helpful tips from chatting to them. I would like to say a particular thank you for the advice from Kate Edmondson, Chloë Haywood, Abby Monroe and Rachel Black (who I met at the East London Design Show 2011).

Here is a list of all the suppliers that I liked at the fair:

Mother's Day Ideas

Things to do

The Rose Lounge (picture from their site)

Take her out to afternoon tea. I have been to the Rose Lounge at the Sofitel, near Picadilly Circus a couple of times. They do a great selection of teas, yummy scones and not as pricey as some of the hotel afternoon teas in London.

Or if you fancy something else, take a look at lastminute.com for their Mother's Day gifts for under £50. They have spa retreats, comedy nights, Family Photo Experience and loads more. Personally, I really like the idea of the 2 for 1 on the Thames Cruise Sightseeing from £13.50. Fresh air, views and affordable.

Handmade and unique gifts

Hey Mama!

Etsy and Folksy are brilliant sites for finding unusual and limited edition items and designs. Check out my Treasury list entitled Hey Mama! (pictured above) which is a selection of my favourite Mother's Day related items. There are some great gift ideas for your mum, for Mother's Day, birthday or Christmas. It's never too early to order something so special.

Last minute gift ideas
You can't go wrong getting something from good old Marks & Spencers! They have some great ideas on their Mother's Day gift guide, with examples for a 'Stylish Mum', 'House-proud', 'Pampered' and 'Classic Mum'.

Here are a couple of gifts with butterfly patterns that I particularly liked.

Another pretty fail safe and accessible option is Next and they also has a Mother's Day gift guide. I wouldn't mind some of the stuff for myself! Their last minute delivery options don't hurt either.

Mother's Day Cards
You wouldn't be a good son or daughter if you didn't at least get your mum a card. And that's where I come in! If you haven't sorted yours out yet, why not buy one of mine that you print out yourself. If you have more than one card to give (i.e. mother-in-law, stepmother and grandmother), you can print out the card as many times as you need to.

Here are my three Mother's Day cards available from any of my online shops at Etsy, Folksy and Big Cartel. All of them use secure payment checkout using Paypal and are £2.99 each.

Craft Central Gets Hitched – London’s handmade wedding fair

Are you planning your wedding and fed up of massive soulless commercial wedding fairs?

Craft Central is hosting Gets Hitched, a handmade wedding fair, on 22-25 March 2012 at their location in 33-35 St John’s Square, London EC1M 4DS.

There will drink and canapés from Pom Pom Takoyaki at the Launch Night on Thurs 22 March 4-8pm.
Late Night Shopping on Fri 23 March 4-8pm.

Avoid the High Street crowds on Sat 24 March 11am – 5pm and Sun 25 March 12-4pm.

The Gets Hitched wedding fair is compact and intimate. There will be loads of ideas on how to add a handmade touch to your big day. Give your wedding some character and browse unique products. You could commission your own piece or discover a bespoke design service.

From ‘classic’ wedding essentials, to the slightly more unusual, handcrafted products on offer will include:

  • Bridal fashion
  • Invitations
  • Millinery
  • Jewellery (rings in particular!)
  • Gifts (such as Ceramics, Interior Products, Silversmithing, etc)
  • Father/Mother of Bride/Groom fashion and accessories
  • Bunting
  • Decorations
  • Floristry
  • Favours and table paraphernalia

Their first Gets Hitched event was last year on 23-25 June 2011, which I went along with my friend, Philippa. It was great to wonder round all the rooms and studios at Craft Central and met some really interesting people. If this fair had been around when I was planning my own wedding, it would have given me loads of inspiration.

This year I have gotten involved by joining their mailing campaign that will reach 1,000 cherry pricked craft/design specific contacts. I supplied A6 postcards (pictured below) with some information about Lovely Designs, pictures of my favourite work and the service I provide. Hopefully, it will spark some interest and get will lead to some design commissions.

I will be popping along on the Launch Night to check out fellow designers and makers.  Wish me luck and maybe I will see you at Craft Central Gets Hitched!
